      • 前 “front” and 后 “back” are used as spacial descriptors such as 她的前边 (the space in front of her) or 我的后边 (the space behind me). But they are also used as temporal descriptors to indicate what is before or after a point in time, such as 前天 (the day before yesterday) and 后天 (the day after tomorrow). 前 here means prior, as in 以前, that has nothing to do with “in front of” in spacial sense. Likewise, 后 means “later”, as in 以后 (later on, or from now on). This is also the saying 前人栽树，后人乘凉. “The trees planted by the previous generation benefit later generations with cool shades. 前人 and 后人 mean people that live before and after (us). And it makes perfect sense to say, 向前看，期待美好的明天和后天。“Let’s look forward and hope for the best in tomorrow and the day after tomorrow”.
